To help you out, here is a quick guide that includes important information and some campus tips.

Without further ado, let’s get started!

1) LAPTOP ROADSHOW 2017

Every year, there will be a laptop roadshow in NYP for all students and staff. If you do not have a laptop, you are encouraged to purchase one as there will be e-learning assignments and project work to be done throughout your three years.

The roadshow will feature devices at special prices for students.

TIP! Do your research on the laptops’ specifications before purchasing. You can view the models available by clicking this link

3) MYNYP PORTAL AND BLACKBOARD

myNYP Portal is the student portal where students can change their administrative information (contact number, email address, etc), check their semestral and examination timetable, CCA points and more.

TIP! Print out your timetable or take a screenshot of it and you will be able to refer to it anytime.

Here’s how to read your timetable:

Blackboardis the learning portal where all the academic related resources are. Your e-learning and module resources are all located here.

4) OUTLOOK EMAIL AND NYP WIFI

An Outlook email account is created and assigned to every student in NYP. Information from the school and polytechnic will be sent to this email account frequently.

Through this account, you can download the Microsoft Office 365 Apps (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint etc.) into your laptop if you don’t already have them.

To download Microsoft Office 365, simply log into your account here, click on “Office Apps” on the top left of your screen, and click “Install Office 2016” on the top right hand corner!

For more detailed instructions, click here.

To get connected to the wireless network in NYP, you can click here and follow the instructions.

5) ADMIN CARD
Bring your admin card to school every day. The admin card will grant you access to various places such as T-Junction and it will be used to mark your attendance for lectures and examinations.

TIP! Find out what is the grace period you are given to tap in for your lectures!

6) PURCHASE OF LECTURE NOTES

A few days before school starts, there will be a “lecture notes sale” for students at the school printing shop. The lecture notes are all printed and bound conveniently for your purchase!

TIP! Bring enough cash and a pen. And come early to avoid a long wait!

7) THINGS TO BRING ON YOUR FIRST DAY

  • Lecture notes for your scheduled lessons
  • Pencil case (with basic stationery and calculator if necessary)
  • Money (for food and last minute purchases)
  • Notebook (to take note of important details)
  • Your optimism :)

8) FOOD ON CAMPUS

You will never starve in NYP, that’s for sure! With so many food outlets, you’ll be spoilt for choice!

P.S. Check out L’Rez and L’Cafe – A restaurant and cafe run by our very own Diploma in Food & Beverage Business students!

9) ACADEMIC TIPS

  • Find time to read your lecture notes before your lecture.
  • Attempt your tutorials to the best of your ability. This is so that when your tutor goes through the tutorials, you will understand your mistakes and will not repeat them again.
  • Be sure to clarify any questions you have with your tutor as soon as possible.
  • Practice good planning and time management, purchase a planner (I like to use weekly planners), and plan out your week. Be sure to include important dates and deadlines!
  • Make an achievable plan. We’re humans and not robots.
  • Take regular breaks between your study sessions. Keep your mind fresh by going out for a simple walk or having short naps.

TIP! Check out the academic calendar and important dates to keep track of time!

10) HAVE AN OPEN MIND

Enter polytechnic with an open mind, regardless of your background. In polytechnic, you will meet people from different backgrounds and they all have their own story to share. This is a brand new chapter of your life and how you want it to pan out is solely up to you.

Keep your mind open to new knowledge, new ideas, new friends and new memories and you will have an amazing journey in Nanyang Polytechnic.

Once again, welcome to NYP!
