I’ve been an NYP student for two years and here are my five reasons why I think you should join NYP too!
1. Your lecturers aren't just lecturers; they're your friends too
A class can't be more fun when lecturers and students converse on the same frequency. Sometimes, advice given by your lecturers may sound like nagging but they have your welfare at heart. They are just preparing you for the industry and trying to develop you into a well-rounded person. Having said that, it is important that students also show that they respect and appreciate their lecturers.
Furthermore, most of the tutors and lecturers came from the industry. They know what is going out in the real world and inculcating their industry-centric knowledge in you is beneficial for your future career.
2. We have an Arcade!
No, I'm not talking about a racing arcade.
NYP has a Shopping Arcade that sells a myriad of items from gifts, t-shirts, perfumery to memory cards and beauty products. Besides the retail outlet, the Arcade also has a pharmacy. If you're feeling a bit under the weather you know where to go!
We also have Cheers! You can come here for a quick munch in between lectures or tutorials. Drop by Cheers and you'll be greetedwarmly by enthusiastic students. Trust me, it'll make your morning.
Year 3 Business Management students who are doing their Teaching Enterprise Project (TEP) tend to most of these stores, with our students the School of Chemical and Life Sciences operating the pharmacy.
3. More state-of-the-art facilities coming your way!
NYP is expanding its campus to the benefit of its students! There will be four new sites built on campus and they are slated to be completed from October 2014.
In addition to the four new sites, Block A will also be extended to house a food plaza that will be able to accommodate 1,000 diners. For fitness buffs, you’ll be thrilled to know that there will be a new gym, thrice the size of the current gym, which will be built at a new block, Block T.
For the Media and Design students, you will also have access to a state-of-the-art media hub where you will learn conceptualisation to post-production using advanced equipment.
This is only a snippet of what NYP will be likein the near future. How excited are you?!
4. The best polytechnic location
Centrally-located and just a stone throw away from Yio Chu Kang MRT, NYP has one of the best polytechnic locations. If you’re residing a bit far off from school, you won’t have to worry about walking and sweating too much as Yio Chu Kang bus interchange is nearby too. If you are staying further away, fret not as NYP has a bus shuttle service to pick students up from five convenient locations: Woodlands, Hougang, Tampines, Jurong and Choa Chu Kang.
Don’t know what do in between long breaks? Orchard Road, is just about 20 minutes away by train!
5. Overseas Opportunities
At NYP, you’ll have opportunities to learn outside of class through overseas programmes. For example, you may go for an Overseas Student Exchange Programme in countries such as France, Korea, Switzerland and America for a whole semester, where you will acquire global exposure. It will definitely make your resume stand out among your peers.
Besides exchange programmes, you may also do a work attachment overseas where you learn valuable skills while understanding the work culture of another countries. Many courses in NYP also have overseas educational trips to various part of the world. There are also opportunities for community service projects overseas. So, you will have other opportunities to learn outside of the classroom and fun travelling with your friends!

Those are my top five reasons why you should choose NYP! Obviously there’s more, most definitely! For example, NYP has one of the best dance CCA, Foreign Bodies, and the serenading Soundcard, a singing CCA, will make you feel right at home.
